Highline Building

We were commissioned by the University of the Arts London to design a trio of large scale mural designs for three of their newly renovated student hall buildings, Sketch House, the Highline Building and Will Wyatt Court. The Highline Building illustration is an intricate cityscape of the Elephant & Castle area.

The Highline Building is a recently developed student halls building on Hampton street, in Elephant & Castle, London. It will serve as a home for many London College of Communication and University of the Arts London Students. The Elephant & Castle area has for a long time been seen as a gritty suburb of London, but with such a central location the area is, controversially, undergoing a vast transformating. This student halls building is just one of many such developments.

To add an artistic touch to an empty wall, the university asked The City Works founder Sylvia Moritz to create an intricate cityscape of the area in her unique illustrative style. The cranes in the picture depict it’s changing nature. With a hard hat and reflective jacket on, we documented the installation of the mural, and the process of carefully lining up the segments of sturdy wallpaper. Seeing the design expand beyond the computer screen into a large scale is a fulfilling sight.
